Reuniting Families Through Recovery
Back when I joined the Odyssey program my children had been removed from my care, I was feeling very helpless and had turned to ‘self medicating’ as a way of dealing with the pain and turmoil in my life.
Fast-forward to now, I have been clean and substance free for over 5 months, I have my children back in my care (soon I will have sole custody) and I am the happiest and healthiest I have been in many years.
With the support of Odyssey I have been able to overcome and confront some of the biggest hurdles I’ve ever had to face, which would not have been possible if it weren’t for the ongoing support I have received, the Odyssey Aboriginal AOD Treatment Worker was an amazing support, I found him to be very easy to talk to, down to earth and above all non-judgmental. In my case having someone to talk to that had lived through similar experiences and come out the other side, gave me hope for the future. He also was able to suggest groups that Odyssey held, like Bringing Up Great Kids, that helped me to work on my parenting skills and allowed me to feel confident in my abilities as a parent, and ultimately helped to achieve the best possible outcome at court.
Without the support of these amazing people at Odyssey I wouldn’t be where I am today.
