Bridging Recovery and Research through Strategic Partnerships
Odyssey has long been at the forefront of addiction treatment and recovery, evolving with the latest research and best practices. Our strategic partnerships with universities and research institutes play a crucial role in this continuous progression.
Odyssey House NSW bridges the gap between theory and practice. Our partnerships with universities and research institutes provide cutting-edge knowledge, which we apply to help our clients in meaningful ways. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the positive outcomes and know we are making a real difference in people’s lives.

These partnerships go beyond research; they transform lives. Dennis Kaip, our Clinical Director, emphasises the integration of research into personalised recovery plans. Dennis has been instrumental in implementing research outcomes into our protocols.
The Matilda Centre, University of Sydney | Evaluating the Performance of Odyssey’s Suite of Programs
We recently completed a long-term project in collaboration with The Matilda Centre evaluating Odyssey’s Residential, Community, and Multicultural programmes. The evaluation included the experience of 6,110 clients from 2020 – 2024. The study found that psychological distress and drug dependence were significantly reduced, while psychological health and quality of life improved across all programmes.

National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC), UNSW Sydney | Family-inclusive Treatment Programs
A landmark study conducted in partnership with NDARC examined the outcomes of our family-inclusive treatment programs. The research revealed that clients who engaged in family therapy sessions showed higher rates of sustained recovery and better mental health outcomes, highlighting the critical role of family support in the recovery process. We are one of the only family recovery centres in Australia and the only recovery centre that welcomes single dads with their children.
