Criminal Justice Support
Alcohol and other drug dependence can sometimes lead to involvement with the criminal justice system, making the path to recovery even more challenging. Our team may be able to support you in overcoming substance dependence while helping you navigate legal requirements and rebuild your life.
How we help
The Magistrates Early Referral into Treatment (MERIT) Program
MERIT is a 12-week voluntary treatment program if you need support with alcohol or drug use and are facing charges in the local court. The program offers alcohol and other drug treatment while your court matters are adjourned.
Odyssey delivers the MERIT Program at Waverley Court, NSW.
You can refer yourself to the MERIT Program. A magistrate, solicitor or police officer can also refer you.
Support for community reintegration after prison (post-custodial support)
Rebuilding your life after prison can be challenging, especially if facing substance use, health issues, homelessness and/ or unemployment. We provide post-custodial support to help you transition back into the community with confidence.
We offer case management to support you in many areas including:
Reconnecting with family
Alcohol and drug harm minimisation
Employment and training
Housing and homelessness
Centrelink assistance
Daily living skills
Referrals to other services
Through our Transitions Program, we provide culturally appropriate support tailored for people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds. We understand the unique challenges you may face, including stigma, language barriers, and community pressures, and we are here to help.
With the right support, you can move forward, regain independence, and build a positive future.
Community corrections
We work in partnership with community corrections to support clients to reintegrate into the community in a safe and supported way through providing specialised support for alcohol and other drug dependence.
Individual support
Connect with a support worker over the phone or in-person. This will be a safe and confidential space for you to work on your recovery. We also provide case management support.
Group support
Join a safe and non-judgmental space where you can connect with others going through similar experiences and set goals for your recovery. We have a range of Recovery Groups running in our community hubs, as well as some groups that we run specifically for community corrections clients at their offices.

Mingu Yabun (First Nations group support)
Join a safe space where you can meet others going through a similar experience, reconnect with culture and take steps towards recovery. Mingu Yabun groups incorporate Aboriginal Dreamtime stories and encourage you to explore the lores that will guide you through recovery and life. Group activities include:
Yarning circles
Narrative therapy
Storytelling
Traditional art and craft
Dreamtime stories
Meditation practice ‘dadirri’
